TMU Women's Basketball ends season on a high note

The Master's University women's basketball team knew Saturday's game against San Diego Christian was going to be its last of the 2020-21 season. The Mustangs made every last moment count.

TMU ran out to 7-0 lead and never trailed, as Master's finished its year on a strong note with a 62-40 victory.

"I'm extremely proud of the way we closed this campaign," Master's head coach Dan Waldeck said. "Our collective joy in playing together was clearly evident."

After San Diego Christian (7-6 overall, 4-4 GSAC) tied the game up at 13 apiece halfway through the second quarter, TMU outscored the Hawks 9-4 the rest of the period to take a five-point halftime lead. Then the Mustangs ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring San Diego Christian 21-10 in the third quarter and 19-13 in the fourth to win by 22.

Olivia Prettyman led Master's with 11 points, while Rebekah Throns just missed out on a double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds. Seniors Tristen Coltom (nine points, four assists), Anika Neuman (eight points, eight rebounds), Jessica Soares (five points, 14 rebounds) and Madi Hull (five points, four rebounds) also contributed significantly to the win.

"This group of seniors has endured what will go down as one of the most challenging years in modern sports and they have honored the Lord through it all," Waldeck said.

TMU finishes the year 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

"The season may have ended sooner than anticipated, but with the memories we've enjoyed together, we exit the year with great gratitude for every moment we've had as a team," Waldeck said.

Waldeck is excited for the future of his program.

"I'm thankful for this team and great things are ahead," Waldeck said.
