Balanced scoring leads TMU Men's Basketball over San Diego Christian

Four Mustangs scored exactly 10 points and 10 TMU players scored overall, as The Master's University men's basketball team surged in the second half to defeat San Diego Christian in Golden State Athletic Conference action on Friday night, 72-51.

"When we play unselfishly, we end up getting great balance and our team does not have to rely on one guy going off," Master's head coach Kelvin Starr said.

After leading by three points at halftime, 31-28, the Mustangs ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the Hawks 41-23 after the break.

"It was a tale of two halves," Starr said. "The second half was one of the best we have played all year. Fifteen of 17 made shots were assisted, which is why our scoring was so balanced."

Kaleb Lowery (nine rebounds), Caden Starr (five assists, five rebounds), Davian Brown (five assists) and Gavin DeJong all scored 10 points. Gavin Lloyd added eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.

"Both Gavins combined for 18 and 11," Starr said. "They were an awesome duo tonight."

Ryan Beddeo just missed out on double digits with his nine points, while Albert Matute (eight points) knocked down two of TMU's four 3-pointers on the night.

Master's (15-3 overall, 4-3 GSAC) dominated San Diego Christian (1-14, 1-8) down low, outscoring the Hawks 46-20 in points in the paint while outrebounding them 41-28.

With the victory, the Mustangs increased their win streak to six and will look to extend that even further when Master's takes on San Diego Christian again on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
