Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Tim Heiduk, Assistant Athletic Director, Events and Communications

Fast start fuels TMU Women's Basketball to dominant victory

In a win over La Sierra on Saturday, TMU Women's Basketball got off to a slow start. The Mustangs made sure that wasn't the case again on Tuesday.

Master's raced out to a dominant first quarter in route to 36-point victory over Antelope Valley, 92-56, inside The MacArthur Center.

"After a sluggish first quarter against La Sierra, we wanted to come out with a renewed sense of urgency," Master's Head Coach Lisa Zamroz said. "We can't afford to take possessions off, much less a full quarter. We came out focused and ready to play."

The Mustangs scored the first six points of the game, and on each of their first nine possessions, on their way to scoring 26 points in the opening quarter. TMU was on pace to reach triple digits in the scoring column, with 50 points at halftime, before reaching its highest point-total since Feb. 13, 2020. Master's scored 21-or-more points in every quarter.

The team recorded assists on 24 of 31 made field goals, shooting 50.0% from the floor.

"With 20-plus assists again tonight, our offense is really starting to flow," Zamroz said. "They're doing a great job playing for each other and seeing the floor."

Master's dominated the boards, 39-16, and points in the paint, 54-10.

"Rebounding was also key for us," Zamroz said. "Our guards were active to the glass, allowing for more opportunities offensively and limiting them to one shot."

Stephanie Soares (18 points, 11 rebounds) tallied her third-straight double-double, while Giani Wimbish-Gay (11 points, 11 assists) also posted a double-double. Ella Brubaker (six rebounds) tied Soares for the team lead with 18 points. Allyson Pettit (13 points, seven rebounds) made it four Mustangs to score in double figures.

Master's (3-0 overall) now travels to Chapman University on Friday for a 5 p.m. game.
