Early goals in each half spark No. 23 OUAZ over TMU Men's Soccer

No. 23 Ottawa University Arizona scored early goals in each half, propelling the visiting Spirit to a 4-0 victory over TMU Men's Soccer on Thursday afternoon in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

"We learned last week that you have to get off to a good start and we didn't do that today," Master's Head Coach Jim Rickard said, referring to the fast start TMU had in a road win over Westmont last weekend.

The Spirit scored a goal about 30 seconds into each half, helping the visitors hit the ground running to start the game and then pull away in the second half. OUAZ added goals in the 20th and 57th minutes, as the Spirit scored two goals in each half.

"It's never a good thing when you give up a goal in the first 30 seconds of a half and we managed to do that in both halves," Rickard said. "Credit to OUAZ for scoring some high-quality goals today."

Master's had a few chances to cut its two-goal first-half deficit to one, with Theo Kudlo's effort from the top of the box coming the closest after a neat passage of play. Jobany Estrada Mata then hit the crossbar with a long-range shot in the second half, but the Mustangs were unable to find the back of the net with any of their 10 shots.

TMU (5-7-1 overall, 2-3 GSAC) returns to conference play on Saturday against Arizona Christian, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll.
