TMU Women's Volleyball dominated the third set against William Jessup on Saturday afternoon, putting them ahead two-sets-to-one.
Â
However, the visiting Warriors took the final two sets to take the Golden State Athletic Conference match in five sets (25-17, 23-25, 11-25, 25-14, 15-9).
Â
"The ladies fought hard, taking the match to five sets" Master's Head Coach
Annett Davis said. "There are a few adjustments we need to make, but I'm confident we'll figure it out."
Â
After allowing William Jessup to hit .333 in an opening set victory, the Mustangs tightened up defensively over the next two sets, limiting the Warriors to attack % of -.059 and -.192 in the second and third respectively.
Â
Jessi Swenning keyed the Mustangs' defensive prowess in those sets, as she led the team with seven blocks for the match.
Â
In those two sets, TMU simultaneously hit .241 in the second before hitting .364 in the third, in which it won by 14 points.
Â
With Master's looking to clinch a victory in the fourth, the visitors had other ideas. William Jessup regained its offensive touch over the final two sets, winning the fourth set by 11 points after hitting .286.
Â
The fifth and decisive set was tied at 6-6 after a
Ruby Duncan kill, but Jessup scored seven-straight points to take firm control. In the winner-take-all fifth set, the Warriors posted a hitting % of .500 to ultimately win by six.
Â
Faith Tarver led the Mustangs in kills for the fourth-straight match, recording 12 kills to go along with her team-leading nine digs. Duncan (eight kills) and Swenning (seven kills) also contributed to the TMU attack.
Â
Emily Clark and Duncan tied for the team-lead with three service aces.
Natalie Collins (15) and
Timberlie Miller (12) both tallied double-digit assists.
