Kaleb Lowery accelerated into the lane, spun to his right and laid the ball in from point-blank range.
The play produced only two points in The Master's University men's basketball team's 90-70 win over Park University Gilbert on Tuesday. But it painted a picture of how efficient and effective Master's was in its half-court offense, especially in the second half when it ran away from the host Buccaneers.
The Mustangs made just three 3-pointers, but shot nearly 70% from inside the arc.
Lowery finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. The 6-foot-8 freshman has scored in double figures in seven of the team's first eight games. Fellow freshman Caden Starr added 14 points and was 4-of-5 from the field. Master's outscored Park 51-36 after halftime.
"We executed our half-court offense really well after the break and played unselfish," said TMU head coach Kelvin Starr.
Starr was particularly pleased with the way his team adjusted to Park's defensive pressure and trapping of ball screens. "We reduced our silly turnovers," he said.
By doing so, the Mustangs improved to 8-0 for the second time in as many seasons. Master's opened the 2019-2020 season with 11 consecutive wins.
TMU will go for win No. 9 on January 19 against Bethesda University.
Tuesday, the Mustangs enjoyed the benefits of a balanced attack. Master's had five players score in double figures and seven players contribute at least six points.
Johnny McWilliams tossed in 13 points, Jordan Starr had 12 points, and Davian Brown chipped in 10 points. Jordan Starr also had nine rebounds and five assists.
Gavin Lloyd and Gavin DeJong each had six points.
The Mustangs shot 69% inside the arc for the game. TMU shot a season-best 60% from the floor overall.
