Coltom sparks Mustangs in win over Arizona Christian

Saturday was a game of highs for junior Tristen Coltom

She played for a season-high 24 minutes off the bench to match another season-high 15 points with a career-high five 3-pointers.

"She's really been playing well," said TMU head coach Dan Waldeck. "She's a girl who can really score. She's gotten more and more balanced, her defense is always on point."

Coltom's stellar performance helped carry The Master's University women's basketball team to a 67-48 victory over the Arizona Christian University Firestorm in The MacArthur Center on Saturday.

Two of Coltom's five 3-pointers came in the first quarter, which helped the Mustangs score 24 points to secure an early lead.

Sophomore Stephanie Soares, who scored her 1,000 career point inThursday's victory over OUAZ, also helped establish the lead by scoring seven points within the first seven minutes of the game. She would go on to lead the Mustangs with 18 points over the course of the game.

"We played with good flow in the first," Waldeck said. "Our defense was pretty solid, we had good energy."

Soares and Coltom were not the only players to reach double digits though, as senior Hannah Ostrom would put up 14 points, half of those coming in the third quarter alone.

The Firestorm put up 11 unanswered points in the last five minutes of the game. Ultimately though, it was not enough to overcome the 29-point lead that the Mustangs had given themselves heading into the fourth quarter.

TMU will now prepare for another game at home on Thursday against Menlo College, a team that gave Master's a hard time in what became a TMU win in Atherton earlier this season.

"We'll be working a ton on execution and being able to handle physicality, because they're a very physical team," Waldeck said. "We're going to be ready to roll come Thursday."
