The Master's University men's volleyball team hopes it saw its future across the net on Saturday afternoon.
There stood members of Menlo College, a third-year program that has risen to No. 8 in the country.
The Oaks used that experience to beat the Mustangs, who were playing the second match in their inaugural season, 25-13, 25-16, and 25-14.
Freshman
Ezra Moore paced the Mustangs (0-2, 0-2 GSAC) with 22 assists after tallying a match-high 35 against UC Merced the night before.
Fellow freshman
Brandon Botdorf posted a team-high eight kills and junior
Brett Norkus had seven more.
"This opening weekend gave us great insight into our strengths and weaknesses as a team," said TMU head coach
Allan Vince. "I saw great things against Menlo from consistent serve-receive that kept us in-system and a great middle attack from Norkus."
The Mustangs scored the first three points of the opening set but the Oaks used ripped off two 5-0 runs to take command.
The Oaks used a 6-0 burst in the second set to pull away and an 10-2 skein in the third to secure the sweep.
Following a five-day break, the Mustangs return to action next Friday evening, hosting No. 5 Benedictine University Mesa (AZ) at TMU at 6:00 p.m.
"I am pleasantly surprised at our ability to come together after every play and communicate strategy for the next ball," said Vince.
