For the second straight season, the Mustangs beat Bethesda at home on a dramatic goal. Last year,
Benji Tembo scored 19 seconds into overtime to lift Master's past the Flames.Â
This time the combination of
Brayden Campos and
Dylan Bielanski pulled the Mustangs out of the fire.Â
With the score tied in the 81st minute, Campos lifted a pass deep into Bethesda's penalty area, where Bielanski headed it inside the near post for his eighth goal of the season and second game-winning goal in as many games.Â
Â
In contrast to a week ago when he scored a golden goal against the University of Antelope Valley in the 96th minute, his game-winner seven days later came in regulation and Master's went on to beat Bethesda 2-1.
Â
"It's always a good battle against Bethesda," said TMU head coach
Jim Rickard. "We just kept going at them and it finally paid off."
Â
The victory was the Mustangs' fourth in a row and improved their record to 5-3-1.           Â
Bielanski's team- and career-high eighth goal of the season, marking his sixth consecutive match with at least one point, was made possible by a strong effort from Campos.
Â
The junior defender made a run down the wing, fought through a pair of challenges, and made a perfect cross to Bielanski, who finished.
Â
It was Campos' team-high fourth assist of the campaign.
Â
Much earlier, the Mustangs struck first in the 20th minute of play when freshman
Steve Banda's cross found
Cameron Molyneux, who headed in his second goal in as many matches. Banda's assist was his second of the season. Senior
Tyler Grassi also assisted on the goal.
Â
That narrowest of leads held up through halftime and into the second half before Bethesda's Gabriel Venegas one-timed a shot into the net in the 62nd minute.Â
Â
"We didn't handle a long ball and they capitalized on it," said Rickard.Â
Â
Goalie
Price Anderson notched the fifth win of his sophomore season.
Â
Saturday's tune-up win set the stage for a big Golden State Athletic Conference opener Thursday when the Mustangs travel to Costa Mesa to take on Vanguard, the conference's two-time defending regular-season champion.
Â
"We had a good run during pre-conference and now move to conference play," Rickard said.Â
