Women's volleyball continues stellar run

Let this settle in: The Master's University women's volleyball team has lost all of two sets in its first seven matches of Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Mustangs beat William Jessup 3-0 by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-19 at Bross Court on Saturday, recording their fifth sweep in conference and winning for the eighth straight time.

The streak all but assures Master's (18-3 overall, 7-0 in GSAC) a higher ranking Tuesday when a new NAIA Top 25 poll is rolled out.

That's to say the Mustangs have lived up to, and then some, their No. 14 billing, a mark that was already the program's highest since 2013.

Saturday, Madi Fay led Master's with 10 kills. Kayla Sims and Jane Cisar followed with six each.

Sims added 16 assists, and McKenna Hafner led the team with 11 digs.

For coach Allan Vince, the day served as a benchmark. He won his 100th match as a college coach (12 of which came as interim men's coach at Cal Baptist University).

For Master's, it meant a weekend sweep at home of the Northern California members of the GSAC. And it served as a tune-up for a marquee match on Tuesday at No. 21 Vanguard.

The Mustangs last won at Vanguard on Oct. 25, 2016. They will return home next Friday and Saturday to host Arizona Christian and Ottawa University Arizona.
