Lady Mustangs bounce back and shut out Arizona Christian

It took less than 48 hours for The Master's University women's soccer team to respond to adversity.

After suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of sixth-ranked Vanguard Thursday afternoon, the Mustangs turned things around Saturday at both ends of the field.

Kellian Ahearn scored twice and the TMU defense completely stifled Arizona Christian's offense in a 6-0 win on Reese Field.

The shutout improved the No. 22 Mustangs to 8-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the GSAC.

The scoring barrage started in the match's 10th minute (9:01) when senior Jasmine Logan found the net from eight yards out on an assist from Suzanne Mabie.  It was Logan's third goal of the season.

Less than 10 minutes later, that duo struck again, this time in reversed roles.

This time, Logan got the ball to Mabie inside the box and the junior midfielder beat Firestorm goalie Mikaela Bushey from seven yards out at the 18:49 mark.

That 2-0 lead stood up through halftime and was never threatened because TMU's defense stifled the ACU offense to the tune of no shots.

There was more of that in the second half and a lot more offense.

Just 3:08 into the second half, Kellian Ahearn made it a three-goal advantage, firing in a shot from 12 yards out off assists from Hailey Gomillion and Sierra Carrasco.

She was at it again over 15 minutes later (63:21), scoring from 15 yards out after assists from Lynnae George and Kyndel Borman.  Ahearn has four goals this season.

In the 71st minute (70:12), Sydney Robinson made it 5-0 when she scored her first goal of the campaign after taking a pass from Vanessa Lourenco.

Lourenco capped the scoring at 82:04, slotting a penalty kick to the left side of the net.

The six-goal outburst received a lot of attention but the defense was the star of this match, holding the Firestorm to no shots.

Mustang keeper Lacey Lehman had a quiet afternoon in goal and recorded her fifth shutout of the year.

After completing a 3-1 homestand, the Mustangs hit the road next weekend, playing at William Jessup on Thursday and at Menlo on Saturday.
