Upending the Eagles

The Master's University women's soccer team's 2017 record improved to 2-0 after beating the No. 8 ranked Northwest University Eagles 3-1 on Saturday morning at Reese Field.

"I'm really proud of the way our girls came out and played in the first 20 minutes," commented TMU head coach Curtis Lewis. "They pushed and pressed well and made a very good Northwest team feel uncomfortable. Credit Northwest for making some adjustments at half time and putting us under some good pressure and finally finding their goal."

TMU got on the board first at the 16:02 mark when Jasmine Parada scored in unassisted fashion.  Four minutes later, Hailey Gomillion connected with a Vanessa Lourenco assist and put the Lady Mustangs up 2-0.

The Lady Mustangs' 2-0 advantage carried into halftime.

However, at the 64:19 mark, Northwest's Hannah Nicholson scored an unassisted goal, cutting TMU's lead to 2-1.

In the 80th minute, Parada connected with an assist from Sarah Stead and put the match out of reach at 3-1.

Parada led TMU's efforts by posting five shots, four shots on goal, and two goals. Notably, Stead launched three shots, while Suzanne Mabie tallied two shots and two shots on goal.

"It is great to get this type of competition early on in the season and for us to play well against a top-10 team," further commented Lewis. "This showed we are making good progress in the early parts of this campaign."

Looking ahead, TMU will host Marymount on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
